Uhuru Peak, Tanzania 5,895 m / 19,341 ft

SUMMIT OR BUST!!  At around 11 pm, we woke up, donned our headlamps and started the grueling 7-8 hour ascent to Uhuru Peak.  We reached Stella Point (5,756 m) (18,885 ft) short before sunrise and we had another hour hike to the real summit point, Uhuru Peak (5,895 m) (19,341 ft).  Unfortunately when we reached the summit our celebrations were short-lived.  The temperatures at night drop to -15° F (-26° C) and the air is incredibly thin.  Our group spent about 10-20 minutes at the summit before heading back down.
